Recycling FAQs
The City of Edgewater contracts out Recycling Collection to Southard Enterprises, Inc. (386)426-8858.
Please do not bag your recycling, place all items loose in your bin. If you need an additional bin please contact the City Environmental Services Department or Southard Enterprises, Inc.

You may get two bins per household. Any additional recyclable items can be placed in a separate container of similar shape/size or a grocery bag near or on top of your recycle bin for collection.
You can recycle white, green and brown bottles/jars with or without labels.
All cardboard, thin or corrugated MUST be flattened and placed in or under the bin. There is no need to cut the cardboard if it is too large for the collection truck they will leave it and have another truck collect it.
Junk mail/mixed paper MUST be placed in a paper bag. Newspapers may be placed loose in your bin.
In order to allow our employees an opportunity to spend holidays with their families, there are certain holidays that the City of Edgewater does not have collection services. Recycling schedules will follow City's schedules. Holidays observed are as follows:
New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

No, you may leave the cap on your plastic bottles.
Yes, all containers MUST be rinsed out. Food will contaminate the load of recyclables.
Thin cardboard is basically any type of box. Here are a few examples: cereal boxes, cracker boxes, soda boxes, hamburger helper box, tissue box, toilet tissue roll, paper towel roll, Ziploc bag box, shoe box, or from your office it will be a paper clip box, staple box, binder box, or the back of your memo pad.

Recycling will be collected once a week on one of your garbage collection days. Check Map Here
Bins MUST be out by 7:00a.m. the day of collection. Bins may be placed to the street/curb the evening before your regular scheduled collection day. All bins MUST be removed from the street area no later than 11:00p.m. on your collection day.
- Plastic bags should be returned to your local grocery store for recycling.
- Styrofoam meat trays and egg cartons can be returned to Publix for recycling.
- Cell phones may be dropped off at the Public Works Facility at 409 Mango Tree Drive. It will be sent to the non-profit organization Cell Phone for Soldiers. They recycle the cell phone and buy calling cards for our Soldiers.
- Rechargeable batteries may be dropped off at the Public Works Facility at 409 Mango Tree Drive. These are recycled through the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation at no cost to the City.
- Clothing, toys, working appliances, miscellaneous household items you no longer want or need? We suggest you consider alternative ways of disposing of your unwanted items. Remembering that one person's unwanted item is another person's desire.
- Be charitable and donate your useable items to a local thrift store.
- Utilizing your local consignment shop is another great way to dispose of your unwanted items while earning a few dollars at the same time.
- Some items may be great for nursing homes, schools, and churches.
