Function and Duties:
The City Charter establishes the City Clerk's position and as a charter position of the Legislative Branch of the City government, they are appointed by and report to the City Council. The Clerk serves the Mayor, City Council and all administrative departments. They are the Official Records Custodian and the custodian of the City Seal.
The City Clerk also:
- provides public notices
- prepares and distributes City Council agendas
- provides access to public records
- maintains a comprehensive records management system
- coordinates the codification and publication of the City's Code of Ordinances
- qualifies candidates for municipal office and supervises municipal elections
- oversees appointments to city boards and committees
- provides research assistance for city departments and citizens.
