Free Chlorine Burn - June 18, 2024 through approximately July 9, 2024

All City of Edgewater's water customers along with Volusia County's Southeast Utility customers will be part of the Free Chlorine Burn. The City of Edgewater uses chloramines to disinfect the drinking water. To maintain the pipes that deliver your water, conventional free chlorine disinfection will replace chloramines for approximately three weeks starting on June 18, 2024 and continuing through approximately July 9, 2024.

The water will continue to meet Federal and State standards for safe drinking water, though you may notice a slightly different taste or odor. If you are especially sensitive to the taste or smell of chlorine, keep an open container of drinking water in your refrigerator for a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate.

Dialysis Patients, users of kidney dialysis machines should not be impacted but should contact their dialysis care provider for more information about water testing and precautions regarding chlorine removal.

Aquarium owners, please contact your local pet suppliers with any questions regarding your aquarium. The temporary change to free chlorine should not affect those with live fish if a system is already in place to remove chloramines.

For more information or questions contact the City of Edgewater's Alan R. Thomas Drinking Water Plant via phone 386.424.2400 Ext. 4030.

2023 Water Quality Report

The City is very pleased to provide you with this year's Drinking Water Quality Report. This report is designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our water source is ground water from fourteen wells. The wells draw from the Floridan Aquifer. It is aerated to improve taste and odor, and chlorinated for disinfection purposes, ammoniated to control disinfection byproduct formation, softened to lower total hardness and alkalinity, pH adjusted and filtered for aesthetic purposes. It is then treated with a phosphate-based inhibitor to reduce corrosion of your household plumbing. You can read it by clicking here, if you prefer a printed copy of the report please contact the Department of Environmental Services at 386.424.2400 ext. 4007.

Reclaim Water Will Be Shut Down Daily - 10:00am (or when reclaimed water supply is depleted) to 4:00pm

The amount of reclaimed water consumed each night has become exceeding high, causing the reclaimed water supply to be depleted prior to the scheduled 10:00am shut down time.  We will continue to utilize the shut down schedule, 10:00am-4:00pm, unless the reclaimed water supply is depleted prior to the 10:00am shut down time, if depleted then the reclaimed water supply will be shut down at time of depletion.

Please know the Wastewater Plant Operators are working twenty-four hours a day making sure to supply the reclaimed water.

2024 Water Service Line Inventory

As part of a nationwide effort required by the EPA, the City of Edgewater will be conducting a Water Service Line Inventory starting March 29, 2024 and should be completed in July 2024. The focus of this inventory will be to document the types of materials used in water service lines that were installed in 1989 and earlier, which is about half of all water services in the City.

Environmental Services Staff will be conducting an inventory of the pipe material going into and out of our water meters. At this time, we are only looking at water services that were constructed in 1989 and earlier. Department staff will be in the field all day on consecutive Fridays beginning March 29, 2024 thru July, opening water meter boxes and digging holes around them to expose and photograph the pipes. In some cases, all the information will be obtained from within the meter box. In other cases, Staff will need to dig holes in the vicinity of the meter box to expose the pipe material. Environmental Services personnel conducting inspections will attempt to keep the disruption to a minimum and fill the holes back in level by the end of the workday.

City staff will be happy to answer any specific questions you may have. Please use the "Contact Us" feature on the City's website  www.cityofedgewater.org and choose "Water" from the drop-down menu, email at EnvironmentalServices@CityofEdgewater.org or by phone at 386-424-2400 ext. 4007.
