Community Home
The City of Edgewater is a proud small town community with trails, parks and the river. The community, established in 1951, was originally started by Dr. John Milton Hawk (1826-1910), who initially called the City Hawks Park. He wanted to promote the small town as "A New England Village on the East Coast of Florida."
By 1887, there were 41 houses, with citrus and bee keeping being the main industry located in Edgewater. In 1888, steamboats shipped 11 tons of honey from the Hawks Park (Edgewater) community. Edgewater acquired its new name on October 24, 1924, by the Florida State Legislature.
The City of Edgewater has come a long way from the original dirt roads and seven businesses that first started the community. The City has flourished into a community thriving with citizens who enjoy the comfort of a small town with the historically beautiful views of a river and close to the beach.
As things have changed in the past and become better and bigger, so will the future of this wonderful community!
