Update: Wednesday, October 23, 2024
Both City and contracted debris haulers began picking up Hurricane Milton debris on Friday, October 18, 2024. While we cannot provide specific information regarding when certain streets/neighborhoods will be picked up, the haulers have advised they anticipate having all of the debris picked up by mid December.
The trucks will be working 7 days per week until all of the debris is picked up. The name of the debris hauler company is Crowder Gulf. They are using local subcontractors but all vehicles should have a Crowder Gulf sign on the side of the trucks. The FEMA required monitoring company is Thompson Consulting Services and their drivers will be following the debris haulers in private vehicles.
The City will be collecting bagged (8 bag limit) and contained vegetation per the usual Wednesday schedule. Trucks will not be picking up construction and demolition debris, loose vegetation, or other materials. These materials must be separated (see graphic below in Supporting Documents) and will be picked up by contracted haulers.
Residents will need to separate debris into the following categories:
Large appliances - Remove doors from refrigerators/freezers
Construction debris
Vegetative debris - Do NOT bag
Hazardous waste - Household chemicals but no medical waste
Electronics
Debris needs to be separated into these categories in order to be properly collected. See the image below for guidance in the Supporting Documents.
Debris should be placed curbside and not block the roadway, drainage systems or access to the property. Place debris away from trees, poles or other structures (e.g., fire hydrants, meters, etc.) to make removal work easier.
The City has created a map so residents can view the progress click here.
