Floodplain Management
The City of Edgewater is committed to doing what is environmentally and fiscally responsible for reducing the hazard of flooding to our residents and business owners. Under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) that are used to determine areas that are more prone to flooding. These maps identify areas of high risk as special flood hazard areas (SFHA) which have a 1% or greater risk of flooding in any given year. They also identify low to moderate risks within communities. It is also important to remember that in these areas flood risks vary from property to property even in the same neighborhood.
