The Public Works Department is committed to utilizing the skills and knowledge of the employees to maintain Edgewater’s physical and environmental infrastructure for the residents, businesses and visitors of the city, making it a sustainable and desirable place to live, work and visit. Following local, state and federal rules and regulations, our services include the maintenance of streets, right-of-ways, sidewalks, water, sewer and stormwater systems, and vehicles and equipment along with providing refuse service and management of the recycling program.
Employees in the Public Works Department strive to provide top quality, professional, effective, and timely services. We do this by focusing on continuing education to maintain a highly skilled work force and concentrating on relationships with ourselves, and our customer service and satisfaction, thus improving our image and maintaining the community’s trust.

Refuse & Recycling Holiday Schedule
Independence Day - Friday, July 4th
There will be NO REFUSE & RECYCLING collection on Independence Day - Friday, July 4th.
If your normal collection day is Monday, June 30th your collection day for the holiday week will be Monday, June 30th.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, July 1st your collection day for the holiday week will be Tuesday, July 1st.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, July 3rd your collection day for the holiday week will be Wednesday, July 2nd.
If your normal collection day is Friday, July 4th your collection day for the holiday week will be Thursday, July 3rd.
There will be NO BAGGED/CONTAINED YARD WASTE OR LARGE ITEMS PICKED UP DURING THE HOLIDAY WEEK.
Reclaimed Water Restriction has been lifted - 06.17.2025 9:00am
The City has lifted the the 10 am – 4 pm watering restriction. We’ve been getting enough precipitation and resulting groundwater recharge to raise the level in Mango Lake to permit reclaimed water supply augmentation 24/7 if needed.
2024 Water Quality Report
The City is very pleased to provide you with this year's Drinking Water Quality Report. This report is designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our water source is ground water from fourteen wells. The wells draw from the Floridan Aquifer. It is aerated to improve taste and odor, and chlorinated for disinfection purposes, ammoniated to control disinfection byproduct formation, softened to lower total hardness and alkalinity, pH adjusted and filtered for aesthetic purposes. It is then treated with a phosphate-based inhibitor to reduce corrosion of your household plumbing. Household Garbage Pick Up Information
The Refuse Division is now requiring refuse carts to be place away from other objects. There should be at least 3 feet between all other items (mail boxes, bushes, telephone poles, parked vehicle, other garbage or recycling containers, piles of brush). For further information click here.
2024 Water Service Line Inventory
As part of a nationwide effort required by the EPA, the City of Edgewater conducted a Water Service Line Inventory starting March 29, 2024 and completed in September 2024. The focus of this inventory is to document the types of materials used in water service lines that were installed prior to the ban on lead pipe for drinking water to determine the presence or absence of lead pipe in each location. At the time of inspection, approximately half of all water services in the City were constructed prior to the State of Florida ban on lead pipe for drinking water which went into effect in January 1989. The City of Edgewater enacted a City-wide ban on lead pipe for drinking water in November 1975 which prohibited the use of lead pipe in water service and water supply systems, which are the drinking water pipes that are external to a building connecting back to the City's water treatment plant.
Public Works Staff conducted this Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) by excavating to visually observe the pipe material going into and out of our water meters. Over 4,000 locations were inspected, including all locations where water supply and water service piping was constructed prior to the City-wide ban plus many of the locations constructed between the 1975 City ban and 1989 State ban.
The results of the LSLI Inventory are that no lead pipe was found in any location in the City of Edgewater water distribution system.
