Role of City of Edgewater Animal Control Officer(s)
The City of Edgewater employs one animal control officer who is trained to handle situations with domesticated pets only. Wildlife problems are addressed under the jurisdiction of Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. Routine patrols are conducted throughout the City to ensure all pets are tagged and on leashes when outside the home. Barking dog complaints are investigated by the Animal Control Officer and the Edgewater Police Department. Any animal bites that occur in the City are also investigated by the Animal Control Officer in conjunction with the State Department of Health.
A violation of local or state regulations may include, but not limited to, the following actions:
- Written warning issued
- Citation (Civil Fine)
- Hearing before a Special Magistrate
