4th of July Holiday Refuse and Recycling Schedule
Important Information Regarding Your Solid Waste Collection
Normally our garbage trucks carry three employees to and from their routes and the transfer station where the trash is offloaded. Due to social distancing concerns, the City Council authorized the change to once a week pick up. This accommodates social distancing by placing more trucks in service with only two employees in the cramped cabs of the trucks. The cooperation and understanding of our residents, who have expressed overwhelming support for the solid waste employees, has meant a great deal to those employees.
As the 4th of July holiday will be observed on Friday, July 3, 2020, pick up of solid waste and recycling the week of June 29th will be affected. Thursday’s collection will be done on Wednesday, July 1st. Friday’s collection will be done on Thursday, July 2nd.
When the holiday pick up schedules were included in the mailed City newsletter it was with the best hope and intention that there would be less need for social distancing. Sadly, the State of Florida is seeing an increasing number of cases and the need for social distancing remains crucial for the health of our employees and their families.
The City Council and our employees greatly appreciate the continued support of our residents. While we fully understand the hardship this temporary measure may have caused residents, the dedicated employees answering your questions are merely following the direction provided by decisions of the City Council. We ask that residents who call the City with questions and concerns treat those they are speaking to with respect.
