Training Operations

Edgewater Fire-Rescue is comprised of career and volunteer members who serve our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Fire protection is provided by two staffed fire engines. We provide advanced life support services, including ambulance transport, with paramedics on all of our first response units. Volunteers, fully trained as Florida State Certified Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics, supplement our career staff. Support volunteers provide administrative and other services to assist our organization.

Edgewater firefighters train for all sorts of routine and emergency calls nearly every day they are on duty. Fire training is accomplished through online training and hands on drills. Department members train at both fire stations as well as attend college classes and seminars relating to various fire training topics. Several times throughout the year, Edgewater teams up with our neighboring cities of New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, Ponce Inlet and South Daytona to perform joint training operations.

Another big component of training at Edgewater Fire Rescue is emergency medical services training. Like fire training, this is accomplished through a combination of online and hands on classes. Training is conducted at both stations and also jointly with our neighboring departments. Every two years, the entire department comes together for a medical training day where guest speakers are brought in and a large skill medical drill is conducted.
