Fire Operations

Edgewater Fire-Rescue is comprised of career and volunteer members who serve our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Fire protection is provided by two staffed fire engines. We provide advanced life support services, including ambulance transport, with paramedics on all of our first response units. Volunteers, fully trained as Florida State Certified Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics, supplement our career staff. Support volunteers provide administrative and other services to assist our organization.

In 2014, Edgewater Fire Rescue personnel responded to a total of 2,536 calls for assistance. Calls for assistance include all types of life-threatening situations like structure fires and medical emergencies but also include the proverbial cat in a tree calls and all sorts of requests for assistance. The history of the fire service, and Edgewater Fire-Rescue, is such that the fire department is often the first to be called when any sort of problem arises.

A total of 135 fire calls occurred in 2014. These types of fires included structure, vehicle and brush fires. Two fire engines are staffed around the clock from Station 55 (1605 South Ridgewood Avenue) and Station 57 (2625 Hibiscus Drive).

Miscellaneous calls (564 in total) for service filled in the remainder of the calls for 2014. These included unfounded or cancelled calls.
