Dusk Fireworks Display George R. Kennedy Park

Summer is almost here. Edgewater is preparing for its annual 4th of July event. The City and the Edgewater Professional Firefighters have teamed up to create a fun filled day for the community and visitors. On Saturday, June 8th there will be a golf tournament at Venetian Bay Golf Club to raise the funds to be used to ensure a spectacular fireworks display. There are still plenty of spots for teams. The support of local businesses has been key to the success of the tournament thus allowing the show to go on each year. Please call 424-2445 for more information regarding sponsorship or sign up to play.

There is plenty of room for vendors for the event. There will be no fee for vendors. Food, beverage and entertainment vendors are welcome. Each vendor will be responsible to provide their own power, if needed. Vendors are encouraged, if possible, to have an activity or game for children. Members of the Edgewater Professional Firefighters will be raffling off a new Perception Sport 9 ½ foot kayak with a paddle and personal floatation device leading up to 4th of July and at the event as well. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. All proceeds from the drawing will be going towards the cost of the fireworks. The drawing will be on the 4th of July just prior to the fireworks show and the winner does not need to be present.

The day will begin with a 5K walk/run along South Riverside Drive. All proceeds from the 5K will be donated to the Wounded Warrior project. There will be live entertainment, food and various vendors at Menard-May Park and George R. Kennedy Park beginning at 5:00 PM. The day will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show by Zambelli Fireworks that is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

Mark Thursday, July 4th on your calendar and come spend it with your family, friends and neighbors in Edgewater!!

For more event information or to inquire about vendor space, please call 424-2445.

Reclaim Water Information

At the City Council Meeting of September 28, 2009, the City Council approved Resolution #2009-R-24 enacting the “Increase Reclaimed Customer Initiative”. In an effort to encourage residents to utilize the reclaimed water system and reduce effluent discharge from the Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Indian River Lagoon the resolution authorizes the abatement of reclaimed water impact fees, adjusts the connection fee and reduces the reclaimed water rates. At the September 27, 2010 City Council meeting, authorization to extend this resolution for an additional year was approved.

REASONS TO USE RECLAIMED WATER

  • Reclaimed water provides for a more economic means of irrigation.
  • Reclaimed water has a low salt content, which will not harm plants.
  • Reclaimed water has a low iron content, which will not stain walkways and buildings.
  • Reclaimed water usage reduces the demand on potable and groundwater sources.
  • Reclaimed water recharges the shallow surficial aquifer with fresh water.
  • Reclaimed water usage reduces the quantity of effluent discharged into the Indian River.

Reclaimed water is highly treated wastewater effluent that is treated to advanced wastewater treatment standards at our Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. This water has been subjected to strict water quality standards established by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). This product is continuously monitored and analyzed by our Licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Lab Administrator to insure continued quality and compliance with regulations.

Reclaimed water is currently available in the Florida Shores area of the City of Edgewater. The service is limited by the extent of our reclaimed water distribution system, which is a completely separate system of underground piping from the pipes carrying potable water.

To have reclaimed water installed or for more information, please contact Environmental Services at 386-424-2476, or visit City Hall at 104 N. Riverside Drive.
